Midnight. A palace clock strikes twelve.

Guests flee down the grand staircase... and on the seventh step, alone, a single glass slipper catches the light.

Far away, in a rain-streaked window on Baker Street, a tall figure turns at a knock. A royal messenger stands in the doorway, soaked through, holding a velvet box.

The box opens. The slipper.

Every maiden in the kingdom swears it fits. Only one of them is lying... and Sherlock Holmes has been hired to find her.

You recognized that story in the first ten seconds. You've just never seen it told this way.

That's the power of the public domain. Classic tales hand you plots people already know, characters they already love and images they recognize in a single frame. Audiences search for the genres they crave... romantasy, gothic thrillers, cozy mysteries. Give them a story they know, told in the genre they love, and they click.

So why aren't more creators doing it?

Because most people who try hit the same walls:

  • They retell the tale the way everyone has already seen it, and quietly borrow details from a famous studio version they can't use
  • Their scenes play like a slideshow of disconnected clips
  • The main character's face, costume and voice change from shot to shot
  • They make one short video... and have no plan for anything longer

The creators who break through work from a system. They choose stories built to be reinvented, rewrite them so every scene flows into the next, and plan from day one for something bigger than a single short.

In Public Domain Animated Stories, we hand you that system... live, over three modules, with your own story moving forward the whole way.

Same Bones, New Genre: Why This Works

Every story in this course is built the same way. The public domain supplies the bones: a plot people already know, characters as their authors first wrote them, and one image that says "I know this one" in a single frame. The genre supplies the skin... the tropes, tone and look an audience is already searching for.

Bestselling authors have done this for years. A Court of Thorns and Roses takes Beauty and the Beast and the old ballad Tam Lin and reinvents them as romantasy. In this course, you'll learn two ways to build a story like that:

  • Genre reinvention. One familiar tale, a brand-new genre. Bluebeard becomes a candlelit gothic thriller. East of the Sun and West of the Moon becomes a fated-mates romantasy.
  • The mashup. Two classics collide, and the visitor brings their genre along. Sherlock Holmes walks into Cinderella's kingdom... and the fairy tale turns into a mystery.

And the timing has never been better:

  • The tools finally caught up. Kling 4.0 and Seedance 2.5 can now generate up to 30 seconds in a single take, with characters speaking their lines on screen. One creator can now produce scenes that once needed a studio.
  • Longer videos, bigger opportunity. Full episodes and feature-length films keep viewers watching far longer than a short, and YouTube videos of eight minutes or more can carry mid-roll ads.
  • The originals were darker. Many of the details people think are modern twists were in the very first texts... and later versions cut them. Most creators never go back and look. You will.
  • The shelf keeps growing. Every January 1, another year of books, illustrations and films enters the US public domain. On January 1, 2027, works from 1931 join the list.

This is for you if you're...

  • A public domain creator ready to turn the stories you already know into video
  • A YouTuber, or a future one, looking for a series format with a built-in audience
  • An author or product creator who wants episodes that sell your books, prints and journals
  • An EMAI member ready to put Motion Studio, Voiceover Studio and Character Turnaround Pro to work on something bigger
  • Anyone who has made AI video clips and wants them to finally play like a real story
  • A lover of classic tales who simply wants to have fun bringing them to life

This course is built around
your own story.

By the end of the third module, you'll have:

  1. A 30-second trailer that finds your audience, tested in public so you know which hook wins before you commit.
  2. A 3 to 8 minute pilot episode that proves your story works, with characters who speak their lines, a score of your own and a hook into episode two.
  3. A longform plan for a full 15 to 40 minute episode or a 60 to 90 minute feature, ready to produce act by act.

You'll also leave with the start of a world you can keep building: a series bible, a look for every world your story visits, and products matched to your genre.

Along the way, you'll watch us build three demo stories from first idea to finished shots:

  • The Case of the Glass Slipper. Sherlock Holmes takes a case in Cinderella's kingdom, in an illustrated style drawn from the original book art.
  • East of the Sun. A fated-mates romantasy in the style of Kay Nielsen's 1914 illustrations, planned as a feature-length film.
  • Bluebeard. A gothic thriller with a cinematic look... candlelit corridors and one forbidden door.

The Offer: Here's Everything You Get
When you join Public Domain Animated Stories, here's what you get:

  • Three live modules. Same Bones, New Genre... Look, Cast & Shots... and Assemble, Test & Release. Taught live [insert live dates], with a replay after every session.
  • The complete slide deck. Every slide from all three modules, ready to review between sessions.
  • The Prompt Set. Every prompt from all three modules, plus the Story Producer: one Claude chat that takes you from choosing your story to a longform plan, stopping for your approval at every step.
  • The Style Library. Illustrated, painterly and cinematic public domain references, with notes for matching each look in Midjourney.
  • The Trope-to-Tale Map. The tropes your audience loves, and the classic tales that already carry them.
  • The Guardrails Checklist. A printable one-page check to run before anything goes public.
  • Three worked demos. The Case of the Glass Slipper, East of the Sun and Bluebeard, built from first idea to finished shots.
  • BONUS: PDFs featuring the BEST and latest works in the Public Domain

Imagine This...

Picture your channel a few months from now.

Your trailer is out, and you already know its hook works... because your audience picked it. Your pilot is live, with characters who speak their lines, a score that sounds like your world, and an ending that has viewers asking for episode two.

The next episode is already planned, act by act. Your world has its own map, its own rules and a calendar of specials. And every episode quietly sells the book, the prints or the journal that goes with it.

The stories are already free to use. The audience is already searching for the genre. The tools can finally deliver scenes that flow and characters that speak...

All that's missing is the system that ties it together. That's what you get inside Public Domain Animated Stories.

P.S. Every January 1, a new year of stories enters the public domain... and every year, more creators discover what they can do with them. The creators who own a genre are the ones who start building their world first. Join us live, and finish with a trailer, a pilot and a plan for your first longform story.

FAQ

  • Is this course taught live?

Yes. Public Domain Animated Stories runs as three live modules [insert live dates], with a replay after every session. Homework between modules keeps your own story moving.

  • Do I need animation, video or writing experience?

No. We take you from choosing a story to finished shots step by step, and the Prompt Set walks you through every stage.

  • What tools do we use?

Claude for the story and the prompts, Midjourney for the look and the cast, and the EMAI App Suite for production: Character Turnaround Pro, Voiceover Studio, Motion Studio (running Kling 4.0 and Seedance 2.5), Video Edit, Underscore and Music Studio.

  • Do I need to be an EMAI member?

While we will be using tools included in EMAI, there are comparable tools available without a membership, and we will share those.

  • What will I finish with?

    30-second trailer, a 3 to 8 minute pilot episode, and a plan for a full 15 to 40 minute episode or a 60 to 90 minute feature.

  • Will my videos be illustrated or cinematic?

Your choice. We cover illustrated and painterly looks built from original book art, plus a cinematic film look, and show you how to match each one to your genre.

  • What stories can I use?

Fairy tales, myths and legends, gothic classics, detectives and adventurers, fables and ballads... any work in the US public domain. As of 2026, that means works published in 1930 or earlier.

  • Can I really use characters like Sherlock Holmes?

In the US, every Sherlock Holmes story is now in the public domain. We show you how to check every story, character and reference, and how to steer clear of designs and details invented by later films. For legal questions about your own project, check with an attorney.

  • Do my characters actually talk?

Yes. Your characters speak their lines on screen, in sync, with voices that stay consistent from scene to scene. A narrator can carry the story between them.

About

Meet Your Expert Instructor

Hi there! Tony Laidig here... I’m known as The Public Domain Expert, but what I really do is help creators like you unlock limitless potential through AI and public domain content... without the overwhelm.

I’ve been experimenting with AI writing and art tools since before they were cool (back in 2018), and over the last 18+ years, I’ve designed more than 600 book covers, including several that landed on the New York Times Best-Seller list.

My goal? To make creativity more accessible, more profitable, and way more fun!

If you’ve ever felt stuck trying to figure out how to create books, products, or art that actually stand out, I’ve probably built a course or strategy to help. I’ve taught over 2,000 course modules covering everything from publishing and book design to AI-generated art, children’s books, video content, and beyond.

And while I love teaching and creating, I live what I teach... traveling the country in an RV with my wife Kristen and our two cats, making art, writing, and capturing inspiration with my camera wherever we roam.

If you're ready to explore powerful tools, timeless content, and scalable creative strategies, you're in the right place!
